Topik & Isu Semasa…

February 27, 2009 2 comments

So after we had that wonderful dinner and that long chat, plus some proposal presentation, the morning after is where the actual event starts. Khafiz was supposed to give a talk on MSC IHL Business Plan competition and also the current state of Technopreneurship development in the country.

At 8am he started with a video presentation on MSC Business Plan, how to participate, what are the benefits, tips on how to win, what to expect from the program and its role on national economic growth.

Part 2 about an hour later is about general topics, for example, the current state of the economy, when is the best time to start an IT business, what funding that are available.Some of the questions asked during the presentation was;

1.What is the current state of IT in today’s economy?
The only business that were affected by the economic downturn is the manufacturing sector.Why? Because their overhead sucks most of the cash to run the business. But there is an opportunity here whereby IT can play a roll on providing better solutions . So yes there is money in IT this time around.

2. If I were to have a full time job now, should I quit to be a full time Technoprenuer?

By all means yes please do so. But try to think over it first and make sure that you had done a calculated risk rather than jumping into a sea of uncertainty.

3. Is there a future for WEB 2.0 in Malaysia?

WEB 2.0 is just a concept, make sure you stay focus on the business side. It is an uphill battle to solely focus on the technology.

But in between sessions, several embarrassing moments occurred,where they were total silence from the audience, since nobody had any questions to ask. I am deeply disappointed by the response given over the fact that some participants form I think the Multimedia class were the only one who had the guts to ask questions, and some from the first year students, and none form the e-commerce students, I have no idea why, maybe they’re just to smart to ask questions, or not interested or the talk was simply just boring .

To sum it up, the speaker, Mr Khafiz states that some of the students had given really good inputs and had a really awesome idea. It lacks only the confidence and the ability to express ideas in public. Maybe we need more student development programs in public speaking and  confidence building activities.

So you see people, geographical boundaries is not a problem, its how we present it up that matters.
